Old Saying's Part Two.
Posted On 04/26/2008 15:41:12 by scott6305
In the 18th century, the British Navy had a hard time recruiting new sailor's.It was a very tough life.Life aboard ship was almost unbearable, spoiled food, bad water, dark, damp condition's around the clock.NO WOMEN ! while at sea.Very hard working condition's with often time's merciless captain's who would have you keel hauled at the drop of a hat. This was also at a time when life in general was very tough everywhere. So if you were desperate enough for a job you would sign up with the Royal Navy where you would be fed three time's a day.Your plate was made of wood(china would break on a war ship)and it was 12"square.Square plate's store easier that round one's.So you were fed three time's a day on a square plate, hence"Three Square Meal's A Day".
