My Birthday
Posted On 10/08/2008 18:45:18 by Philly
So today dawned on a bright and beautiful note, I'd had a couple of birthday wishes, one on here from Ei (Redei) and one on MySpace from one of my non redhedd friends there, sadly, the one on MySpace (Mamatitch) posted hers a good hour before Ei (Sorry Ei - but you were the first on Redhedd )

So waking up, I found that littlered had spammed my page - which is par around here, yes I know I've done it myself  Mind you that wasn't the end of littles involvement in my birthday celebrations - but I'm moving ahead of myself.

My father and stepmother arrived just before ten, bringing hugs and birthday cards and we had a chat about the funeral and mother and he offered to drive me around today, which was accepted. During the conversation I had Royal Mail deliver a package - special delivery. Opening it I found that little had sent me a packet of Chocolate Digestives and two small bottles of Famous Grouse whiskey - as well as cards from her and Lizzie and this was now turning out to be one of my best birthdays.

The only problem being that I had to make a visit to the undertakers, today.

So at 1 o'clock I donned mourning clothes and headed for the undertakers. Now whatever ideas I had of a chapel of rest, it wasn't what I experienced today. I was ushered into a small room, and true it had flowers, but I didn't expect a spartain room which to a cursory glance looked like a table with something on it. On approaching it I could tell it looked like mother, but the personality and the very essence of being was not there - it was just an empty shell lying there in what I discovered was her coffin, one other thing I discovered, when I touched her, was she was almost frezing too.

This now begs a question, when a body is waiting for funeral is it stored in a freezer or something? Only bought out if a family wishes to see them? Just curious, not a morbid fascination.

So the rest of the afternoon was spent emptying her room at the nursing home, she had an awful lot of stuff for someone who never did much - we had to make two car trips.  And tonight was spent at dinner in celebration of the fact that it was my birthday - didn't I mention this? must of forgot

To answer your question about refridgeration...I am not really sure, BUT your mother did pass away over a week and a half ago (if I am not mistaken) They had to preserve the body. Most times here in the US the funeral is done with in 3-5 days of the passing. I hope this maybe answers your question some.

Im glad that you had a fantastic birthday enlight of everything going one.

Talk with you soon..whenever I can get over this stomach virus that I have.
