A man is in a room with 7 candles, there is a table on which the candles are put on and the window is open, there is no other source of light..

The man leaves the room to boil a kettle when he comes back he notices that 2 candles have gone out.. He shuts the window, makes his tea and goes to bed...

how many candles are there in the end?

i was going the same way if you went to bed you could assume the other 5 burned away...

you have 12 pairs of socks mixed up in you r top drawer...6 black and 6 white...
now it early and you don't want to wake your partner up...so you don't turn on the lights...
what's the minimum number of socks you have to take out of the drawer...
in order to have a pair that matches...?

The two that went out would remain assuming the other 5 burned away.  Then again there might be none left (or a house either as going to bed with candles lit is a good way to burn the house down).
