A recent post I made on another blog received some praise. It made me think more about the subject of being PC. I have also been working on my own personal website that will launch in a week or so. As content for my personal blog, I expanded on my thoughts about being PC. Here they are....( and there will probably a lot more posts about this same subject).... Political Correctness is destroying the very fabric of our society. It is allowing for the proliferation of illegal immigration, the continuance of racism, moral corruption and the death of common sense to name a few things. Most importantly, it is killing free speech. Free speech is one of the core elements of a free and civilized society. In today’s culture, you had better think twice about saying ANYTHING that may or may not be or could be construed as offensive. I always site this classic example when common sense and/or education are stomped on by Political Correctness. Niggardly. Yep, I said it. I’ll say it again.... niggardly. How could I say that? Because it is a valid word that has NO offensive meaning. Here is the definition (from dictionary.com) adjective1.reluctant to give or spend; stingy; miserly.2.meanly or ungenerously small or scanty: a niggardly tip to a waiter.–adverb3.in the manner of a niggardNiggard definition...–noun1.an excessively parsimonious, miserly, or stingy person–adjective2.niggardly; miserly; stingy. See - absolutely NO relation to the word “Nigger” of which is a highly offensive word to the Black community (even though they use it ALL the time in rap music. Again, more political correctness going bad). However, back in 1999, David Howard, a white aide of black mayor of Washington, D.C., Anthony A. Williams, correctly used the word in a meeting about a budget. Marshall Brown, a black colleague of David Howard, thought it was a racial slur and filed a complaint. The result was Howard tendering his resignation to the Mayor, and the mayor accepted it! After much outcry, the Mayor offered Howard to come back to his position. He refused, but accepted another. Howard later made the following statement... “ I used to think it would be great if we could all be colorblind. That’s naive, especially for a white person, because a white person can’t afford to be colorblind. They don't have to think about race every day. An African American does. This whole situation puts a direct spotlight on being PC. One, Howard used the word correctly. Two, Brown was offended by no one but his own stupidity. The Mayor, also being stupid accepted Howard’s resignation and Howard was stupid for tendering it in the first place. Why did Howard not step forward and state nothing racist was said and for Brown to go get a dictionary? Why did the mayor not defend Howard? Was he ignorant of the word as well? Even the chairman of the NAACP defended Howard and seemed flabbergasted that people were offended. He is quoted as saying... "You hate to think you have to censor your language to meet other people’s lack of understanding", he said. "David Howard should not have quit. Mayor Williams should bring him back — and order dictionaries issued to all staff who need them." "Seems to me the mayor has been niggardly in his judgment on the issue. [...] We have a hair-trigger sensibility, and I think that is particularly true of racial minorities." You know what would have stopped all of this non-sense... COMMON SENSE and an "I am not special" attitude. Because a black man heard Niggardly and was unfamiliar with the word and interpreted it as “Niggerdly”, which is not even a word, and because Howard was too PC himself to stand up for himself AND because the Mayor too was PC, Howard quit. All of this could have been taken care of with a dictionary and a 15 minute meeting in the Human Resources Department. Instead, it played out in the history of American politics and even sparked a debate about the banning of the word!! I for one am sick of all of this. I will not follow this crap. I will use the word niggardly. I will not use the term African American unless you were born in Africa and are now an American. If you are in this country without permission, then you are an illegal immigrant, period. If I enter your country without permission, I am an illegal immigrant. Oh hell, I could go on and on with the examples, but this blog would reach record lengths. One last note before I get to my pledge... If you hear a word or phrase that offends you, ignore it. If someone wants to be an ignorant idiot, let them be that way. If it turns into a problematic issue where groups come together in the name of negativity, THAT is when you take it to the law or the public. And besides, it is a word, not a dagger, gun, knife, bomb or whatever. Cracker, nigger, white trash, red neck, kike, Spic, wetback, dego, dike, fag, spear chucker, whitey, the man, slope, kraut, russky, gook, yankee - whatever. Get Over It! It is offensive if you let it be. Political Correctness has been sited as having roots in Marxism. I encourage you to do more research on this movement and understand why being Politically Correct instead of just using common sense and being a decent human is bad for all peoples. My Pledge to society: 1) I will not lead my life worrying about the possibility of offending others. 2) I promise you that you will be offended by something I have said or done or will say or do at some point. 3) I promise that at one point in my life I will offend someone regarding race, religion, color and/or creed. 4) I promise that I will not always see your point of view and that I reserve the right to disagree with you at any point, wholeheartedly. 5) I promise that if you find me offensive, I will not loose any sleep over it. 6) I promise that I will not purposely set out to offend anyone. 7) I promise to do my part in advancing all civilization with the best of intentions. If you are offended in the process, too bad. Get over it. 8) I promise to do my part to end Political Correctness and make people realize that they are not "special". You are one of 6.7 Billion people on the planet. The world cannot cater to all your emotions needs. Potentially Yours Offensively, Raphael
