One Of Those Days
Posted On 12/27/2007 18:34:51 by Redheadluva22
I had a month's worth of recording sessions planned for drum tracks starting Dec. 28, but I had to go break a head on the 24th. So, obviously I needed a new head fast, so I went to the Guitar Center site, to which I was happy to see they carried it. When I drove there the day after Christmas (total chaos), they didn't have it in stock & the dude tells me it will be 3 or 4 weeks before they get restocked. Oh, real nice! So, I figured I would take my chances at another music store called Daddy's Junky Music, about a 1/2 hour ride away. They didn't have any in stock at that particular store, but the dude tells me after checking via online, the store in Nashua, New Hampshire has one. I told the dude to call them, tell them to hold it for me as I was on my way. What normally takes 1/2 hour, the drive took me more than 2 1/2 hours. I had to put $10 more in for gas and I finally get to the store. No one got a call from the other store & to top it off, they don't have the drum head! Now, I'm ready to kill someone. It took an hour & 1/2 to get back home and I had to put ANOTHER $10 gas in the car. Bottom line, I spent $30 in gas, 5 1/2 hours of driving, for NOTHING!!! So, I go online to Musician's Friend, order the head, and move the recording session up a week. Now I'm behind schedule.....swell

Dnarose; after what happened in Nashua, I wasn't about to drive to Manchester & get furtherly disappointed + I ran out of time.

TheBreeze; dude, you must not be a drummer, eh? SERIOUS drummers have a major preferance on drum heads. I use Evans Hydraulic Clear Blue, they don't require muffling and have a nice rich tone. And with the rest of the drums having Evans heads, one different head is going to sound like shyster during the recording session.

Jules; I would have preferred not driving one inch LOL After driving for a living years ago, I hate driving now, but it was the $30 in gas & coming back empty-handed is what got me burning up.

If I had known this ahead of time, I would have just ordered from Musician's Friend. They always have everything I need & ship fast. I'm getting the head I need, but I will just have to wait 'til Jan. 2 or 3

OMG I HATE days like that!

It's no comfort, especially after all the wasted gas and time, but you did all that you could. And who knows, maybe you avoided getting in a car accident because you were driving all over creation?

Yeah, I don't quite believe that either, but you never know.

Sorry for the frustration, bubba, I know it bites the big on (in the bad way).

It's just a drumhead man!  You drove all that way looking for one particular head?  Sounds crazy to me.  Any music store is bound to have at least one head that will fit... unless you have some weird octagonal drums or weird sizes.

Did you check the store in Manchester as well? You have to always call the store as well because often the computer at many stores is wrong about the stock.
