I usually don’t comment or dwell on the crazy backward anti-Red Hair mentality of some people but here’s my opinion:
1) I think it's crazy that this sort of discrimination is allowed --and this "it’s not racist because we are not a separate race" just doesn't justify it! Well it may/may not be true that we are/aren’t a separate race - but one thing is for sure it's----'Gene-ist' (prejudice based on someone’s genetics) which in my opinion is just as bad as any prejudice/discrimination.
2) If we had more Good promotion on T.V. / movies etc. people wouldn't discriminate. Red haired girls have had good promotion for a while now and in my experience and stories I’ve heard don’t get anywhere near the same discrimination as red haired guys do.
Ways to solve this:
1) It starts from within red haired people --how can we expect others to respect us if we don’t respect ourselves i.e. some red haired girls wont respect red haired guys and see them in the true way they are i.e. that they are attractive and wont give them a chance for a relationship for example, primarily it seems due to what other people might say i.e. (that people might think they are brother and sister--which doesn't seem to apply between anyone else with the same hair colour etc. ---this is crazy and sad in my opinion)
2) This tan/fake tan vs fair skin prejudice in my opinion is crazy--- apparently people in dark skinned countries seem to like fair skinned people too and people in light skinned countries seem to think only tan/fake tan is acceptable --just crazy in my opinion. If someone wants a tan/fake tan that’s fine but in my opinion it shouldn’t be seen as more beautiful than someone with fair skin. Everyone is beautiful in their own way!
3) The words Ginger, Redhead and Pale Skin need to stop being used and be replaced by Red Haired and Fair skin.
The words Ginger and Redhead give a bad impression. Ginger is a root/plant and is just used as nasty slang! Redhead (Apologies to the websites that use this name) but this is just from my experience/view that the word is used as a nasty subtle slang too and nothing to do with hair! No other hair colour is described in such ways!
The words Pale Skin gives the impression someone is sickly looking and doesn’t have the vibrant, beautiful, glowing and healthy Fair elven-like skin that we really do!
I don't think anyone thought that the Elves in Lord of the Rings for example were described as Pale/sickly looking or should go get a tan! They were seen as amazingly beautiful both the Males and females.
Just like Red Hair and Fair Skin is Beautiful --- both Male and Female!

Hi vivalasvegas! Red Haired people are liked in the U.S. ? really? Even Red Haired guys? I just ask because do you know the WWE Wrestler Sheamus, he’s a Red Haired guy and he said he got a lot of crap from people in the audience at the shows in the U.S.
I should have added also that red haired guys too in my opinion need to break out of the 'Comedian/Class Clown' role that seems to be the only role that it is accepted for us to have by some people and reclaim our rightful place of self-respect and from respect from others! In my opinion red haired people should not go along with or add to the offensive, stupid not funny jokes/labels that are aimed at us by some people!
I believe we the potential descendants of the Tuatha de Danann(of Ireland), Pictish people(of Scottish Highlands), Bretons(of Wales and England), and Norse people(of Central and Northern Europe) and others, who were Great Warriors, Artists, Scientists and people of Honour.
These people included such great historical figures as Cu Chulainn, Thor, King Arthur, Achilles, Hercules, Boudica and which evidence suggests built Stonehenge , New Grange and many other wonders of the world, in my opinion deserve respect from others, respect for ourselves and respect for our ancestors!
