(AC/DC, of course)
I don't think I have mentioned it before, but I am going to a ball on Friday night. Me. Now, I realise you can't see me, so I am going to help you out a little. I have neither the elegance, nor the beauty, nor the grace to satisfactorily pull this off. What I do have, however, is a very pretty dress and that is, most likely, my main reason for accepting the invite.
Unfortunately, although I'm sure she is due, my fairy godmother has thus far neglected to show. Maybe I don't entirely fit the criteria required to gain a fairy godmother - I have neither cruel step parents, nor ugly siblings and I am real. I checked. - however, I'm pretty sure I could make a decent case for having said help. For a start, I did spend most of last night cleaning the flat. I am lacking in pumpkins and mice, however, so I would need to compromise on that - I'm sure a good fairy godmother would be able to come up with something from the cheese I have in the fridge and the spiders that roam around the flat, right?
Despite the fact that everyone - from friends and family to a girl at a make up counter - has been telling me I'll do fine...I am not convinced. Maybe I've just seen too many Disney movies or something, but I'm reasonably sure when a lady - or in this case, me - attends a ball, she's suppose to look stunning, be full of grace and elegance and just all-round fabulousness. Slight flaw in the plan: these concepts and myself are not particularly well acquainted.
One thing I am extremely grateful for though, is that it isn't going to be as I always picture balls to be in my head - I always picture an 18th century style ball - so that is something at least. And the band that are going to be playing do 50's/60's rock 'n ' roll, which is awesome. I've seen them play a few times - we've hired them to play at a few parties - and they are extremely good and I am very much looking forward to seeing them play again. And I do like to dance. Thank God for small mercies.
Anyway, to sum up:
Dress? Check. Shoes? Check. Bag? Check. Grace, elegance and beauty? Erm...
On the plus side, however, I am led to believe that all I need to do to entice a charming young man is leave behind a shoe, and even *I* can manage to do that...
