During the 70’s my uncle (father’s brother) took on the adventure of a life time and set off to travel down the Amazon River, leaving sunny (but mostly rainy) London England behind. The journey, as most, had its turbulent moments but was worth the price if you ask me.
Accompanied by a friend and a guide, the young adventurers set off into the jungle on their way to their ‘boat’ which awaited them on the famous river of the Amazon. The journey was going well up to this stage and all spirits were at a high; on reaching their boat the two friends equipped with cameras, film and their supplies set off down the river.
Here are a few pictures that were taken by my uncle.
About two weeks into their trip, my uncle acquired a perforated stomach ulcer with the nearest local village (with a doctor) being a weeks travel away. During that period, he considered the pain to be so unbearable that he wanted to shoot himself. Luckily he was spoken out of this and finally received some help. Unfortunately though, it didn’t end there, but that’s another story. Anyway, as i said at the start, i think it was all worth it so not to put a 'downer' on things
