This may seem paradoxical, but last night I experienced a good break-up. The red-head I was seeing, we'll call him Mr. D, and I were hanging out at his apartment watching Family Guy. Although we have been having a good time with eachother, I felt that we didn't fit so well together in some ways. For example, he's the kind of person who has to check his datebook for everything, which is the total opposite of me (but let me clarify that there is nothing, nothing wrong with being organized). I'm spontaneous and like to party. Hard.
I decided to drop it to him how I'd been feeling about "us" recently. This is pretty much how it went:
"I need to talk to you about something." As I said this, he got a very serious look on his face; he looked like a deer in the headlights. He knew what was up.
"You are the nicest, most responsible and thoughtful person I've ever been with," which is true, that wasn't just a line. "But, I think I'm just too wild for you."
Mr.D: "What do you mean? I thought we've had a lot of fun..."
Me:"We have. I know I have, at least. But I think you're too serious for me. I just don't think we mesh well together. I think we need to see other people."
Mr. D: "I wish I wasn't so serious....It's just how I am."
Me: "I know, it's not a bad thing about you. It's who you are, but I just can't be in a relationship with somebody like that. I'm too spontaneous.....We can have break-up sex if you want."
Mr.D:(thinks about the offer)".........Okay!"
True story: that was the best break up I've ever had.
No worries, though. I'm going out with a surfer this weekend.
