To Everyone I've Painted

Hills told me awhile ago to join Art Wanted, and I did, last night. I didn't know that you can only upload three images until you pay for the service (but geez it's a good deal, and I will be going that route today), so I uploaded a couple of what I thought were my best ones, Lyric and the new Emmy. Tried to upload the Breezericious, but it kept timing out :(

Anyway, this morning, I had 6 comments on the pieces AND an OFFER to BUY BOTH paintings!!

I'm completely excited and quite blown away and VERY confused as to what to charge. The people want to pay me in traveler's checks (which I like, cuz that seems to be a safe way to accept money--but if anyone has heard of scams involving traveler's checks, please let me know ASAP), and they want the prices of the paintings.

So first off, to Lyrie and Emmy, I need your clearance to sell the paintings, and secondly, to everyone: anyone have any idea what I should charge? I can't go too high cuz I don't want to blow the sale, ya know?

I did find a portrait site online where people send in their photos and the site's "professional artists" paint or draw the image, for $299, but I have no idea if that's standard.

AND to everyone else that I've painted, I need to know if I have your clearance to also sell your faces (as it were). Euni gave me clearance to sell hers, and I know that Hills wants both of hers sent to her, and WonderFook's is spoken for, but for the rest of you, please let me know if it's ok to sell?

Also, if you've requested a painting, keep your eyes open, I'm kind of on a roll, lately, and please let me know if it's ok to sell it?

I am thinking = ask them for a starting bid - and go from there -

 

I think if you can do some research to find out what similar artwork is going for - then you can base your price on that - I am going to research for you but only when i've gotten some much needed rest - say tomorrow morning./

They said they're moving from the US back to their native Belgium (how cool, if true), so that's why the traveler's checks.

OH I want it to be true, ya know? And really hope eez not scam.

That's amazing, Jules!  I'm so happy for you!

Traveler's checks seems odd though ... Why not cashier's checks or money orders?  If you Google "travelers checks scams" there are an awful lot of stories of people using counterfeit checks, invalid/out-dated checks, or similar.  Defintely read up on the possibilities first, Julibug -- I want to see this all work out for you in the best possible way!  *Hugs*

Ok I've thought about this.. and I think the best way you should go about the pricing is to just not even set a price.  Tell them to make you an offer.  Sure, you'll get some low-ballers ($50!), but you just may get someone who really likes it and is willing to pay alot more than $150 or $300 for it.  There are some people out there who wouldn't think twice about paying rediculous amounts of cash for a painting that you may not even think is worth much money.  True, this site on the internet may not be the best place to do that, but it's worth a try at least for a while.

When you set a price (say at $300) you're basically saying that's the highest amount of money you'll accept for it, while also scaring away people who might be willing to pay a little bit less (say $200.. "shite I don't have $300, I've only got $200").  You should keep an ideal amount in your head and see if anybody comes close to it, and if they go over it, just don't refuse.

$150?  I think at least $300.  Even that's low.  No one else could paint that!  That's your hand that painted that painting and you chose those colors.
