Out in the Garden Part Deux

So I put in a full day in the garden, yesterday . I extended a border into a flower bed, And also planted a lavender hedge.
The border took most of the day, what with having to contend with showers and thunderstorms, and it isn't easy to work with a clay soil - I live just below the cotswolds, and the soil on top of the hills washes down into the Vale of Severn and doesn't stop til it reaches the river (Severn) The downside is muggins, here, has to work with it.
So back to the border, I discovered that the amount of plants I had ordered/bought exceeds the amount of space I have to put them - I can't help it, I see a plant, or a pack of seeds I like and I buy it (I think some people are like that with strays) So I had to make more room, now I have plenty of patio in my garden so there is plenty of room to expand into so all I had to do was lift a few slabs and off I go. Right?
Wrong.
You would think I would have remembered that patio slabs sit on a layer of gravel (at least over here) so raising slabs doesn't cut it, I have to scoop out a couple of hundred weight of gravel as well and then contend with the aforementioned clay, (now normally here would be a picture but I am having problems with the technology ) Anyway, all thats left to do is to dump another layer of soil on top of the clay and I can start planting in it.
The lavender hedge was simple in comparison (I was just knackered after digging that clay) (Piccy here) as soon a people walk through the gate, they will be assulted by the smell of the lavender and it's bedmate a Japanese Honeysuckle.
Any way, keep digging.
