So, my husband went to this muic festival in Michigan over the July 4th holi and came back aching for dreadlocks...he hasn't had a haircut for almost a yr + a half, so you can imagine its startin to annoy him (what with summer heat and gettin in his face and all). Personally I think it was watchin 10000BC that put him over the edge as much as the fest but we won't tell him that, lol. But yea.
Well, we bought the beeswax and spent a good portion of the "late nite "and "wee hours" last night backcombing and waxing and twisting and backcombing and beading and twisting and backcombing...Suffice it to say we have not one usable comb left and one more dreadhead on the continent. I really hope they turn out well, as it was a lot of work and pretty painful for him (I actually had lots of fun!). Of course we won't know for sure right away, it takes a few months for them to lock up and be fo'sho planted in. I'm sure they will though, and I was put in charge of the "department of hair creativity and maintenance" so I can touch it and play with them just as much as I feel like!! Yay!

I thought about doin dreads a while back but put a nix on it as per advice from the boyfriend and several vehement lovers of my hair (who I now realize are surprisingly more numerous than I had imagined)....I like the look of the skinny dread, but I also love the feel of brushes or fingers or wind running through my hair. But besides the ultimate goal of never having to really do much with it, free creative range comes attached. Ribbons, beading, coils, random things I might feel like stickin up in there, shinies and pretties and lovelies...not to mention if I wanted to chop them off, my hubby thinks me and short hair is sexy. So while his dreads set in and develop I will be doing some considering on whether or not I'd really want to. If anyone who stumbles across this wants to comment or put in your 2 cents, feel free. I like lots of opinions.
