My husband never even got a chance to see any parts of Kansas. He was sick almost
from the time we got here to the end.
Let me tell you what sounds like a badly written soap opera but this is my life:
After we moved here,my husband needed a gall bladder operation. He had a heart
attack in recovery. His liver enzymes showed up strange so they put a TEMPORARY
stent in his bile duct. Found out that the strange readings for his liver
enzymes were because he was a diabetic. He healed. We asked them to take the
stent out. Between the heart doctors and the mid sction of of the body doctors,
they fooled around until the stent clogged up and bile went thoughout his system;
poisoning all his major organs. He was thowing up bile almost every day. I
kept telling them (the doctors) but first it was "we'll remove the stent end of
March then we'll remove the stent end of July." In the meantime, his life
insurance policy was terminated. LOL NOT. He worried at that but felt so bad
there wasn't much we could do about it. Around 4 weeks ago, I took him to ICU.
He was gray. What should have been a 1 hour trip to Wichita took almost 2 hours
because I had to drive so slow; because he hurt so bad. They hooked him right
up, did some operations; he got 3 major infections; they tried antibiotics but
the infections kept mutating until the doctors told me they couldn't do anymore.
I had to tell them to unhook him from the tubes. We had a wonderful
conversation on Sunday, the day before he died. He asked me if he was dying. I
said please prove the doctors wrong and live but if you can't, yes, you are
going to die. He told me I was a wonderful wife and I told him how much I loved
him and that he was a wonderful husband. He told me to go home because he
wanted to go to sleep. I did. Got back there at 8:00 AM. He was completely
out of it. Hospice came and asked me if I wanted to take him home. I said yes.
They set everything up at the house. Dave woke up a little and I told him that
he was going home and that I loved him. He wasn't able to talk so he mouthed
the words going home and I love you. I left because I wanted to get home
before the ambulance did. I got about 1 mile away and got a call that he died
before they had gotten him to the elevator. I can't write anymore right now.
Thanks for listening.
