Regarding "Slutty" Women

After reading the blogs by Carrie and Hilary about slutty women, I realized that  I guess I don't really care about them one way or the other. I don't know any "sluts" or "hos" and when I see over-sexualized women, I guess it just kind of doesn't register too much.

Like, their behavior and dress doesn't reflect on me, as a woman; nor does it affect my life in any way.

I will say that I've caught myself feeling sorry for women who dress super-revealingly and/or judge their own worth on how much attention they get. I usually think, to myself, that one day they will realize that it really IS the inside that matters, and dressing provocatively just sends a very strong insecure message.

On the other hand, I guess I don't really have the right to feel sorry for anyone or judge anyone else's sense of style or sense of self. "Sexy" is different for everyone, and if a micro-mini and a tube top and come eff-me pumps make someone feel sexy, then more power to them.

Just like some women feel sexy looking goth or punk or preppy or business-casual. It doesn't add or subtract to me or my perception or my life in any way. And if a man I'm interested in finds himself more interested in a sexually dressed woman, then he's obviously not the man for me.

Ya know?

I didn't think you were attacking anyone, and I didn't mean to give the impression that I was condemning you for anything.

I just thought that you and Carrie both wrote interesting blogs, and they made me realize that I'm a little less involved in what other people do than some other people are (did that make any sense?). But I totally agree about self-respect in young women.

I think many people think that attention is the most important thing (Britney Spears springs to mind), and dressing provocatively is the easiest way to get it. I just kind of take myself out of the equation, though. Not better or worse to do that, it's just where I am in my life right now.

The blog I posted wasn't to attack anyone in particular on this site. It was to bring up the issue of the way sex is viewed in this country. I think there is a problem with the way society views women these days and that we need to try to influence girls to have more respect for themselves.

Well, I don't know that it's that I believe in myself so awfully much; I think it's that I just don't see other people--especially strangers--as affecting me that much. Except, of course, people I admire, and myriad historical figures who have laid the groundwork for the increased freedoms and choices (even in clothing) and equality we modern women enjoy.

Maybe it should bother me, I don't know. But I have never felt that the sexual actions or dress habits of other women (especially the ones I don't know) are any of my business.

"Live and let live, dress and let dress, f*ck and let f*ck" is the crux of it, for me.

Boy, I'd a be a sucky feminist, huh.

Hey Jules.....I have to agree with you. Who am I to judge some one by the way that they dress. Case and point....I quit going to a church that I was going to because there was a woman there that always judges my kids by the way that they dressed when they were in church. My were wearing khaki pants and nice shirts. Do you see anything wrong with that?! Cuz I sure as hell don't! I guess I thought God does not judge so wtf gives you the right to judge my kids! needless to say, i told her off and I do not go to the church anymore. Ok, so I am a overprotective mother hen, but screw with my kids and you are going to get the wrath of the fiery redhead!
