I've started doing yoga again and my whole body hurts. I spent an hour
last night up, down and all around our living room floor. I'm not
really one of those people who talks to the t.v., but I was cursing
like a sailor at that evil, sadistic, "high energy" yoga instructor
from Inhale. I'm fairly sure I offended the TIVO. But the worst thing
is that I actually used to be good at this. From 2000-2005 I
owned my own business contracting out to health clubs teaching yoga. I
taught 10 to 16 classes a week and I was a human rubber band. It was so
much a part of my life that I was known as "Yoga-Liz", seriously.
Unfortunately, living in Oklahoma, there weren't enough classes to go
around and I couldn't make a living. I had to get a real job, so I
became a makeup artist (yes, it is too a real job). But I was so tired
from being on my feet all day that I just wanted to sit down when I got
home, which got in the way of my daily practice. Eventually I stopped
doing yoga all together. That was 2 1/2 years ago.
Flash forward to now, I'm completely out of practice, my balance is
shot and I've lost about half of my flexibility. That may not sound
like much, but when you go from being able to do front splits while
laying forward on your front leg to being in excruciating pain while
you suffer through Bound Warrior pose, it is. So I don't have to start
completely over again but its going to take a while before I can get
anywhere near where I was. And speaking of, it's about
that time of night when I should go about torturing myself into
unnatural positions on my floor and then get up covered in cat hair
(don't judge, I lost my yoga mat in the move and I need to vacuum). So
goodnight all, and wish me luck that I don't pull anything Richard
might need.
