I just bought tickets to MIA's show in the very small Majestic Theater in Detroit. She just came off tour with Bjork and this is probably the last time I'll ever get a chance to see her in anything more intimate than an arena (which means it's the last chance I'll get to see her because arenas blow and after watching Neil Young and Soundgarden from half a mile away without being able to tell which was which I'll never step foot in one ever ever ever again).
We cut Thanksgiving in Maryland short just for this. For those of you who are not yet familiar with this fine young lady, here is a video of a song from her last album, "Arular".
Dig how tough/vulnerable, sexy/innocent. Dig what a walking contradiction of Sri Lankan hotness she is.
That's what growing up raised by a Tamil freedom fighter and a low-wage seamstress will do to you. That's what fleeing to London and going to art school will do to you. (trust me, I'm speaking from experience. :).
Anyway, she's got a new album out called Kala. I put a couple of her songs from that album on the player below, and a couple from her first album, Arular.
Hope you guys like her as much as I do!!...
