I decided that I will begin this post similarly to my prior post on government authority because the core principles remain consistent. I make some important points here, and I encourage anyone who considers themselves a politically involved person to read whenever there is time.
"Short Version of the Post"
Dear government:
History tends to indicate that you break everything you put your hands on. I am so glad that the founders of this country realized that you are a virus that erodes human liberty, prevents progress, and destroys individuality. You do not own the individuals of this country. We own you. We do not need you to make decisions for us, and we do not need you to tell us what is best. Do me a favor, and stay the hell out of my life.
Sincerely,
Jay
"Long Version of the Post"
The health care issue is stalling for Obama. He is beginning to face opposition from all sides, and even some Democrats in Congress are defecting on the issue. The Democrats got together and drafted another 1000+ page load of crap labeled health care reform. Obama has been lobbying it day and night, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I wonder why all of the sudden that people are opposed to an Obama policy. Maybe it's the fact that this piece of legislation possibly is the first bill of his administration that has actualy been debated.
"The House bill adds $239 billion to the federal deficit during the first 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office. It would pummel small businesses with an 8 percent payroll penalty. It would jack America’s top tax rate above those in Italy and France. Top earners in New York and California would be giving more than 55 percent of earnings to one government entity or another." --- David Brooks, Op-Ed writer for New York Times
Also included in the bill are mandates that would impose a $2500 fine for citizens who do not want to currently buy a health care plan. If they don't want to, make 'em! That seems to be the modus operandi of the Obama administration as of late.
Apart from the nightmare that is Obamacare, there is the basic principle at hand. It is shocking to me that we now live in a country in which the whole of an entire political party supports government intrusion into every American life by way of health care. There is a segment of the American population that has become utterly gutless and totally dependent. The Democrats tell people their entire lives that if they can't make it in life, don't worry... we'll take care of it! The idea sounds swell on paper, but decades have eclipsed and produced a pathetic and growing welfare state. The system is one that facilitates laziness and nearly encourages underachievement.
I know what you Obama cult members are thinking right now. Good God, you heartless beast of a human being! All Obama wants to do is give health care coverage to poor people. All we want is for every person to have health care, don't you see that, you fool?..... Yes, I know I know. Just like with every issue with liberals nowadays.... emotion holds the gavel in hand, and rationality is often the defendant. Nevermind the consequences of a particular action. Only worry about the good intentions.
I am here to offer you quality points to think about as this business is parsed by the news media. Most estimates say that there are around 45 million Americans without health insurance. This is the whole point, right? That's a tragedy! We can't have that, we must give complete coverage to those 45 million people, or our entire health care system is a failure! Right? That's basically the Democrat argument. My argument is that the health care system in this country does not need a top-to-bottom overhaul... it needs fine tuning. It needs rational people taking a look at the real needs. People who do not have an agenda to grow the size of government to nauseating extents. I will say that this is one thing the Republicans haven't offered -- an alternative. Republicans have been fighting this legislation, and rightfully so... but they need to offer a different way of doing things, or not many people will listen to them.
I say the 45 million is a total BS number. I say not everyone in this country needs the type of health care proposed in the legislation. I say not everyone in this country even WANTS that health care. I say there are ways of maximizing people covered under insurance plans without involving a mammoth bureaucracy that will likely decrease the quality of care across the board...
I will back up these statements with strong arguments and perspectives, as well as address the premise of "coverage for all" in a second post in the near future. I do make an effort, believe it or not, to make my posts a tolerable length, and will therefore respect the time and convenience of the reader by continuing at a later time. So much to say, and so little time.
Cheers,
- Jay
