Dull hair! Help!
Posted On 07/27/2009 21:45:44 by Becks

I don't know what is up, but my hair is duller than dishwater this summer! It has no shine and just doesn't seem as bright as usual. I am trying to avoid any kind of hair coloring kits (it's cheating! you would all hate me!)

The girl at Ulta recommended Matrix shampoo for red hair (funny because the shampoo itself was white..? Is that not odd?) anyhoo, I don't think it has really helped at all.

I have been told to try Aveda Madder Root, too, but I remember using it a long time ago and it stained my bathtub (looked like a scene from "Psycho" afterwards)

I'm up for any helpful tips, my fellow ginger beauties!

one thing that works for my hair, when it needs a little more 'umph'..I get cranberry juice (organic), put in a spray bottle, and while in the shower, I spray all over hair..it removes any residue and adds a beautiful shine...(I leave it in my hair for about 3 mins, rinse, then wash my hair and condition)...hope this helps

Burt's Bees' Wax makes an avacado butter hair product that works really well.

okay.. the best shampoo i have found for getting rid of all the muck in your hair is by Giovanni.  Called tee tree and something something.  doesnt have harsh sulfates or dyes of any kind.. i would stay away from any shampoo that is for redheads, as it sounds like you dont want to add any king of color at all, would prob make it worse. one thing i do when i want extra shine is i put a bunch of lemon juice in my hair and sit in the sun.. good luck!

Hmmm, no hair specialist, but walking through walmart a few days ago to get more shampoo I saw some pantene pro V stuff that was supposedly for redheads. No idea if it works or not though.....

So after asking a friend who is attending cosmetology school, I have some tips for you.

1.Beer, removes residue from products and makes hair shiny.  Leave in for 10 minutes before rinse.

2. Sometimes I use a tiny bit of olive oil if I need some rockin locks for the night.  It adds shine and reduces frizzies. Just use a little on your finger tip and run through hair, too much is no good.

3. Avocado helps protect from UVs that dull hair.  Leave in for 30 minutes before rinse.

Aslo egg can be used but that sounds really gross to me......but any way beat it and put it on your hair.  Rinse with cold water, very important.

If you swim in chlorine a lot, make sure to rinse your hair after.  I swam on a team as a kid and the sun would bleach my hair and the chlorine would turn it dull and even green.

Good luck and Aloha!
