on a similar subject, a recent lecture in my anthropologie class was on the topic of the genetic origin of blonde hair. during the second ice age there was a shortage of males (due to harsh hunting conditions, many of them died) and females with lighter hair were more easily able to find a mate. eventually, the lighter haired gene was passed down so much that it became the light blonde that is associated with people in parts of europe today. this fits with darwin's theory of evolution and illustrates how blonde hair was a genetic mutation that resulted in social adaptation to the lack of male mates. wow i sound just like my professor!
