ok less smart-aleck, more facts. Here ya go:
Last spring I was at the bank and the teller was a redhead. "Redhead?" she said. "ayuh" I said and doffed my cap. "We're going extinct you know." That got my attention. "Well that would be a shame wouldn't it?" I said.
I went home and looked it up on the Internet, home of all authoritative truth and rigorous scientific fact. Zounds! There it was! The Oxford Hair Foundation! It must be true.
I don't remember what synapse misfired to make me think the response was to start a social network, but it sounded like fun.
I'm not much of a programmer, so the bulk was done by an outsourced team.
I launched the site in May of '07. Got a few friends on. Wrote a few press releases, put out a lot of messages to Myspace redheads and redophiles, and did it again. And again. And cetera.
The rest, the beautiful part, is all that you guys have done to make the site the total awesomeness it is today.
So! Where are we headed? I dunno. It's all been pretty much a happy accident, so why start planning now? But I do see lots more redheads, a few redheaded celebrities (I'd love to see Neko Case put a profile up, Julianne Moore and Conan O'Brien too if they can be bothered). It'd be kinda nice if the site was actually profitable, maybe a few site sponsorships by redhead-oriented companies or something. Or I don't know, something really crazy, like maybe we'll start making redhedd brand sunscreen. SPF 105 you know! Everybody's gonna be needing that in a few more years, not just us.
