good day
Posted On 06/30/2009 22:54:23 by Drowned_Phoenician

today, the united states officially transferred responsibilities of security over to iraqi military and police forces.  from this point forward, the US will play a supporting role, with gradual troop withdrawals over the next couple of years.  this is a testament to just how good conditions are and how well the troops have performed over there.  iraq is now a completely sovereign democracy..... something that would have seemed impossible at the turn of the century.

the damper on the good news was when i watched president obama making a speech and talking about how great the situation in iraq is now.  this coming from the same guy and from the same party that wanted complete and immediate withdrawal from iraq in 2006 after the golden mosque bombing.  if obama was in charge in 2006, we would not have the favorable situation we have today.  we would not have succeeded in ridding the country of insurgency or supporting the iraqi government.  we would have left the militias to fend for themselves, and the situation would likely have spun out of control.

just thought i'd throw that out there.....because i know the media probably won't.

I just could not make up my mind to comment this blog or not, but there is something valuable about this life of ours for me that makes me want to so here goes....

I am so sorry, I saw a picture of a women (whom I presumed was a mother) in Iraq covered in blood stroking her son’s forehead, I don’t know if the child was dead, but the picture was heartbreaking. I saw the mother as myself and the child as my son, and I was overwhelmed and gutted.  I know this is one picture and the reality is that the majority of civilians killed were women and children. I know too, that the countries that have been involved in this war have mothers, wives, daughters, fathers, husbands sons, girlfriends, boyfriends, and friends.....   loved ones coming back in body bags, my heart goes out to them.
They have lost their loved ones, this is a loss, a loss that affects us all, and because of this I just do not see this as a victory.  I ask my self, does this loss that this war, or any war has
brought make us all losers really? So heart breaking, so very, very, very sad.  Are we really so barbaric? Where is our compassion? Where is our understanding even for one another? When will we end the war even amongst our selves, when will we end the war in our own heads?

Latest news reported:

Tuesday 30 June: 38 dead
Tameem
Kirkuk: car bomb kills 33.
Salahuddin
Shirqat: gunmen kill 1.
Tikrit: 3 bodies found.
Babil
Iskandariya: 1 body found.

IRAQ’S JUNE TOTAL: 517 civilians killed, including 62 children.

I truly with all my heart, hope that peace can be found, because even one death as we know so well when someone dies within our own family is not a number for us  that is written down.

if the press in this country was not so bent over and grabbing ankles for obama, he would be toast over this whole issue.  i can't believe the hypocrisy of the democrats on this issue.  they had NOTHING to do with this success.......ABSOLUTELY nothing.....  they were the ones telling the troops "we can't win....we can't win....we've already lost"....  they spent every moment of their waking lives the past few years demonizing the mission in iraq.....  and now to try and somehow take part in the celebration like you had something to do with it?  vomit....   any semblance of an objective press would be curious over this 180 he's done.  that would be asking too much though.  that would be asking them to look at obama as a little less than a god.  they might have to think about the meaning of his words instead of how they sound being read from the prompter.

no, lunar...  it was the stellar leadership and courage of the democrats that got the job done.  thanks for reminding me of that......   for real, i truely think that if we could go back in time, we would not have gone into iraq.  what is important, though, is the right people at the right time decided to stick it out and finish the job.  they used a bit of common sense and realized you can't just leave without conditions being favorable to do so.  iraq, which at one point was a disaster, can only be thought of as a victory because of the leadership at the time and not because of obama or any democrat (say for joe lieberman and a few others).  stay in denial all you want.

redei, i like the frosted ones.   ;-)

Okay... well.. I'm quite unpolitical.. but your last sentence struck a chord... so it promted me to chime in.. (had to make the musical reference lol).  Yes the media is managed, but at the same time we still have open internet access and news gets out to the public.. albeit a bit stilted at times.

Thanks for offering your  perspective in your blogs.

BTW - Cherrio... ummmmm   I prefer the Honey Nut version how about you?

Oh but of course.... It was solely due to dubya's masterful strategic planning, amazing international diplomacy, and inspirational aircraft carrier flight deck photo op......... That shoe was a size 10, wasn't it?
