Still single after all of these years!
Posted On 06/01/2012 14:33:20 by EuniceCrankyponts

Oftentimes, I sit an ponder and wonder why or for what reason am I still single and by single, I mean not married. I have been through many relationships some good, some bad, and one horrific! I suppose I remain single and unmarried because men cannot commit to me. Perhaps, their thought process is that I am not good enough or worse yet, too good for them. Then again, why buy the cow when you can milk it for free?

I am sitting here today thinking about what I want out of life and two things come to mind: a career that I will be happy with and a man to love me enough to marry me. Oh, I have other things that I want in life, too but I am tired of being alone. Even though I have someone, it is a long distance relationship and hard to be in. I want him around all the time. I am getting impatient with being alone all the time. Though, I wouldn’t change our relationship unless he avoids commitment to me.

He has told me over and over again that he is not going anywhere and that I am stuck with him for life. GREAT – but in what capacity? I know what I want. I am fairly certain I know what he wants. This is all sorts of confusing. I have been engaged twice before but never made it to the alter. Hey, I am perfectly entitled to suffer from a Cinderella  complex wanting a wedding and that commitment!

Yes, some would argue that it is only a piece of paper, but I think it is so much more than that. For people who end in divorce it is because they cannot transition through changes in their lives. I hate to say this but there are ups and downs in a relationship. The piece of paper means so many things. My commitment to a relationship means that I am not going to leave the relationship unless something horrific happens; for instance, abuse. I’ve been there done that and will never subject my children and myself to that again.

I believe in the sanctity of marriage, I believe that if things are going wrong in a marriage then things need to change not for the relationship to end. I am done with this conversation for now other than to say that I am madly in love with my man. :)

I feel the same way. My man tells me that I am stuck with him and I tell him that he is stuck with me. I have been with him nearly 2 years and still no committment from him. We are buying a house together, have everything a married couple has accept that piece of paper. I am in the same boat as you Euni. I get angry sometimes because I feel as if I am not getting that committment from him, BUT I know he isn't going anywhere either. I have been married before and it didn't turn out so well for me. Part of me is afraid to take that step again, but I don't want the title of "Ed's girlfriend" anymore either. I Believe that I deserve more than that.

YAY for you that you have found your "special someone"- and that he found you back!!  That's more than half of the battle, you know... I agree- the commitment behind marriage is more than just a piece of paper- the promise of forever is heavy.   Great blog Euni!
