Closed minds bother me...
Posted On 03/22/2008 17:45:28 by Elysa101
Recently i had someone read my "about me" on my space (which is the same one i have put on my profile here) and this person seemed to be offended by what i wrote in it, and by my profile in general. However, in the beginning of the "about me" it clearly asks that no one get offended. As for my profile, well this person got angry that i had things that say "peace" "make love not war" And things bout supporting gay marriage. While i understand that everyone does not feel the same as i do about theses subjects i also feel that everyone is entitled to their own opinions and should not be told their opinions are "wrong" Its an OPINION, it doesnt have to be right by someone elses standards. This person concluded their argument me by telling me i should go to church.... will that make me change my opinions? NO! I am who i am... why does honesty bother some people so much?

Jules, the worst are people who attend church every week, then go right out and do dishonest things.  I have a different attitude about religion than most. I believe church is wherever you are....your home, your car, etc. Any where you can pray becomes the church. I guess this believe developed because my husband and I are two different religions, so we decided not to attend church.

Brandi, yes religion and politics can cause a lot of fighting.  I remember posting on a health related board and someone mentioned they were Wican.  I was told by others not to talk to this person because of their beliefs.  I basically said, maybe I don't agree or understand her religion, but what does that have to do with us talking about health.  Anyway, I became good online friends with this person and have talked to them on the phone and we even exchange birthday presents.  I guess I try not to judge others. I treat the as they treat me.  For some reason, most of the time the subjects of religion and politics bring out the hate in others.  Far too many people don't know how to debate an issue. Instead attacks come out.

Everyone is entitled to there opinions, and that is your right, but you will always find that someone is going to disagree with you no matter what you do.

There are things however that I do not and will not talk to people about, religion and politics are nothing but fights waiting to happen, because I GUARANTEE if anyone on here knew my relgious beliefs and how I REALLY felt, half would probably NOT continue to talk to me on here. Does that change me as a person?! No not really, but I keep that part of me to myself.

Keep being who you are and no one can fault you for that.

I think everyone is entitle to their opinions i dont understand why people have to attack it.

ARGH! I hate this kind of stuff! Everyone IS entitled to their own views, beliefs, and opinions, and should never be attacked for them.

Seriously, how can YOUR views threaten someone SO MUCH that they feel the need to attack? It's a sad state of affairs, but it seems prevalent in society today that so many think that THEIR views are the only "correct" ones, and that anyone who doesn't agree is automatically wrong and/or evil and/or deluded.

I think it stems from fear, I really do. Fear and closemindedness, and nothing is more pathetic in the human pscyhe.

I'm sorry you had to even deal with that.

As for the whole "go to church" thing, there's nothing worse than a self-righteous bible-thumper trying to shove their views and religion down other's throats.

(And sorry for all the caps in here, this thing just makes me FURIOUS!)

Live and LET LIVE, people! Ffs!
