Last week I did something I have wanted to do for over 2 years.....get a real Henna tattoo by an authentic artist. Liat is from Israel and has been in the US 8 years. She is a Jew and she and her sisters have been Henna artists for over 10 years. I asked her if she would use me as a blank canvas and do my hand in the traditional Israeli Henna artwork. She was thrilled. She taught ME something while she painted:
"Did you know out of all the world's peoples, those who have red hair and freckles accept Henna far better than any, since they produce a higher body temperature and that in turn cures the Henna longer than other races. Your henna will be darker and will continue to darken for 48 hours. Redheads can wear their Henna art far longer than us because of this aspect of their genetic make-up. You are lucky to be freckled and red-haired. Your hand will look better than most."
Now, being a redhead, I know quite a bit about such things, but this piece of trivia was new to me. She was right....instead of orange, my tattoo is chocolate brown. It has been over a week and shows no sign of fading yet. I love it. It's beautiful.
